John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs he wrote, most of which are situated in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in the love of Colorado and later moved to Aspen. Denver's anthems for his adopted state have drawn many to Colorado. There isn't another performer that embodies Colorado like John Denver said G. Brown curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. In 2011 Denver was chosen as the Hall of Fame's very first inductee. He is now the symbol of Colorado for all people. When I travel, I always encounter someone on the other part of the globe, one from New Zealand and you say 'I'm of Colorado and the first thing that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a brief career performing in small folk group comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads composed by Bill Danoff. Danoff initially wrote the song to Johnny Cash's tune in mind, but Denver knew from the first moment he listened to the earlier versions that it was going to be an instant success. The song was recorded a couple of days after playing on stage in Washington D.C. before an large crowd who were very appreciative.
